The 15th edition of CinEast has officially started, going on from the 6th to the 23rd of October. This year, in partnership with LUkraine asbl, “CinEast4Ukraine” aims to collect funds to finance a fully equipped ambulance to send to the Ukraine. In addition, free access is guaranteed to Ukrainian refugees to the screenings as well as most events.
The Ukrainian focus of this year’s festival will also remain present in the food offers. The opening event with MYDY (at Melusina, 7th October) as well as the Ukrainian evening with Joryj Kłoc (at Rotondes, 20th October) will offer a tasty selection of both hot and cold dishes from Ukraine. Additionally, CinEast has chosen a Ukrainian production as its opening night film: “Luxembourg, Luxembourg” from Antonio Lukich, who shot most of the scenery in Luxembourg city. This movie has just recently premiered at the Venice film festival in September 2022 in the section Orizzonti, which definitely sounds promising!
The festival will also focus on Czech cinema, to celebrate the country’s rich and long cinematography history. To name a few examples: Czech New Wave, the cinema school FAMU or also directors such as Miloš Forman, Jiří Menzel or Věra Chytilová. As the Czech Republic currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU, more light will be shed on Czech cinema. Most of these screenings will also be accompanied by Czech beer, Moravian wine and some typical snacks of the country.
If you are more into music, the afterwork party with CinEast at the Mirador Bar (14th October) will offer you Eastern European drinks as well as snacks while giving you the opportunity to shake it off to the sounds of a vibrating Balkan music DJ set.
