Boxemännchen
Ingredients
- 525 g flour
- 125 sugar
- 1⁄2 yeast cube
- 210 ml lukewarm milk
- 1 egg
- 1 sachet vanilla sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 75 g soft butter
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp milk
- A few raisins
Instructions
1. Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl. Press into a mould.
2. Dissolve the yeast in some of the lukewarm milk, add two tablespoons of the sugar, pour this mixture into the bowl and dust with some flour from the rim. Cover and leave to rise for 15 minutes.
3. Add the rest of the sugar, the remaining lukewarm milk, egg, vanilla sugar, salt and butter and knead everything, preferably in a food processor, until you have a shiny, smooth dough. This takes 6 – 8 minutes.
4. Cover with a linen cloth and leave to rise in a warm place for a good hour. The volume should have doubled.
5. Depending on how big the Boxemännchen and Boxemeedercher should be, divide the dough into 6 – 8 portions.
6. Now it’s time to shape the dough. It is wonderful to let the children’s creativity run free and see the result later. A cheerful Boxemännercher family, promised!
