The 29th edition of the National Competition of Sparkling Wines (“CrĂ©mants”) from France and Luxembourg had to adapt to the current health situation by offering instead of a large-scale tasting where representatives from the different regions form a jury and discuss the properties of the crĂ©mants, an adapted solution with a local jury.
It is therefore under special conditions that the The 29th edition of the National Competition of Sparkling Wines (“CrĂ©mants”) from France and Luxembourg was held in Luxembourg this year. This did not prevent the local jury, made up of winemakers, oenologists, HORESCA representatives and journalists, from rating and classifying more than 80 different CrĂ©mants. The CrĂ©mants were tasted blind on five tables in five categories (Blanc Brut, Blanc Brut MillĂ©simĂ©, RosĂ© Brut, Blanc de Noirs Brut and CuvĂ©es SpĂ©ciales).
Great success for Luxembourg
The “CrĂ©mant de Luxembourg” is a perfect reflection of the quality efforts that are facing Luxembourg’s winegrowers. The complex process involved in making CrĂ©mant is particularly important for winegrowers. The popularity of CrĂ©mant on the Luxembourg wine market is also demonstrated by the fact that 3.5 million bottles of this sparkling wine are now produced, compared to 2.1 million bottles in 2010. It was also clear to the jurors that this product, which is characterised by joy, conviviality and elegance, deserves awards. In total, the “CrĂ©mants de Luxembourg” were able to win 16 gold, 8 silver and 2 bronze medals.
