EGG, is the new place to discover in the Gare district. Speciality coffee, a colourful and welcoming location, and a menu full of flavourful dishes and drinks. Do we need to say more?
The owner of the famous Bloom café in the Gare district, Vic Pereira, is behind this place. Located not far from there, EGG offers a different concept. „I wanted to create a place around the egg, to offer an all-day brunch style menu, always with very good coffee, in a beautiful place.“ It is true that the unequivocal name of EGG and the beautiful decoration make you want to push the door and discover more.
Vic wanted to give the place a real identity. Inside, you are greeted by small touches of yellow on the spiral staircase, the outline of the inside window, and dried flowers placed on each wooden table. The grey waxed concrete floor and the white walls bring a beautiful luminosity to the whole, as well as the huge bay windows which look out onto the rue de Strasbourg.
The magnificent pink marble counter (from Marbrerie Bertrand, Munsbach), finished by the owner Vic Pereira himself, welcomes customers. From the ground floor, a magnificent iron staircase, repainted in yellow, leads to the first floor. Upstairs, a large room with a huge farm table allows you to have a comfortable lunch and in a very intimate corner, a sofa invites you to take your time.
As for the menu, Vic Pereira wanted to offer a menu where the egg is king, but above all where it is worked with a real know-how and a little je ne sais quoi of difference to surprise the customers. „With the chef, we wanted to revisit classic egg recipes, such as Egg Benedict for example, but served in a bao bun!“ The omelette too, which we tasted and approved, airy and soft, is served with a cherry tomato jam for a very vibrant result, far from the classic omelette. The „pétanque“ egg breaded with panko is also worth trying. For the sweet tooth, don’t miss their French toast-style brioche and their pancakes, fluffy as can be!
Open from 8am to 4pm on weekdays (except Mondays), and on weekends from 9am to 5pm, EGG is definitely the place to go for a delightful time with friends or even family (high chair, drawing board and soon a changing table in the toilets, are available for the little ones) to enjoy an all day brunch.
