Did you know that the Central’ Poissonnerie, located in Rue de Strasbourg (station district), has existed in Luxembourg City since 1973? Since then, the highest quality fish and seafood directly from Rungis Market (Paris) have been sold on its stalls. Today, the shop has moved across the street and reopened its doors under a new name “KRAKEN” for the pleasure of its loyal customers.
More than 45 years ago, Giuseppe Daloia, a seafood enthusiast from an Italian dynasty committed to gastronomic culture, opened the Central’ Poissonerie. At that time, it was the only quality seafood and shellfish shop in the city.
His two sons, Nicolas and Savino, then took over the business. But some time before the pandemic, they were looking for a new, more energetic, and younger manager. It was only natural that the idea of a collaboration with their neighbour, Gérald Polis, owner of the delicatessen Thym Citron, came to them.
“When the brothers approached me with an offer, it was not at all suitable for the development of a new business: the pandemic, restrictions, rapid growth of online trade, banks hardly grant loans for such projects. The decision to embark on this project became a real challenge for the time, which I would not have achieved if there had not been a strong team of like-minded people behind me and the expertise of the Daloia family, true professionals in their field” told Gérald Polis.
To finalise this project, a few changes were necessary, including a transfer of the Thym Citron grocery shop to the completely refurbished Central’ Poissonnerie premises, and the fitting out of the new Kraken fishmonger in the old grocery shop.
“We are very happy that the story continues. By creating Kraken, Gérald Polis is continuing our family’s work while expanding our clientele” explains Nicolas Daloia.
