To celebrate the Italian Week in the world, KACHEN took part in a Masterclass with an online tasting on the theme: “Italian cheeses: five PDOs in harmony with wines”.
The “Week of Italian cuisine in the world”, with the theme “Knowledge and flavours of Italian territories, 200 years after the birth of Pellegrino Artusi”, was celebrated in Luxembourg with three events carried out in hybrid mode (digital and “in presence”), taking into account the restrictions imposed by the global pandemic emergency, but without giving up the promotion of the oenogastronomic excellence of the Italian regions, which have always been appreciated in the Grand Duchy thanks to the presence of numerous restaurants and distributors of PDO and PGI Italian food products.
The first of these events, organised by the Embassy and the Camera di Commercio Italo-Lussemburghese (CCIL) in collaboration with the ICE Office in Brussels, took place on Wednesday 25 November, during an online Masterclass : “Cheeses from Italy: five PDOs in harmony with wines”, which highlighted the high quality of Italian PDO cheeses in association with wines dedicated to enhancing the taste of a typical Mediterranean diet. During the presentation, Enrico Surra (ONAF-appointed cheese taster) and Céline Dissard (AIS sommelier) presented the characteristics of a number of PDO cheeses such as Caciocavallo Silano, Fontina, Gorgonzola Piccante, Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino Sardo, skilfully combined with Prosecco, Moscato d’Asti and Barbera d’Alba. The KACHEN team had previously received a kit of products to be tasted during the Masterclass.
This Masterclass was organised as part of the “True Italian Taste” project, which aims to enhance and promote authentic Italian agri-food products.
With the second event “Italian cuisine and solidarity”, which was presented on Thursday 26 November, the Embassy and the CCIL set up a charity action in collaboration with CARITAS Luxembourg and the company MONDIALFOOD, which has been active for years in food distribution, giving people made even more vulnerable by the economic effects of the pandemic, a quantity of quality Italian products with the aim of giving even those in need the opportunity to savour the excellence of the Mediterranean diet, a model of healthy and balanced gastronomy.
Finally, to highlight “street food”, which has always been a symbol of Italian gastronomic tradition, a video has been made by Chef Vincenzo Azzarone under the patronage of the Italian Chefs’ Federation to highlight the Italian culinary art.
