This Sunday 18 September, take the whole family to visit the BioG dairy in Käerjeng with workshops and tasting of products. On that same day, the organic dairy production and educational farm Bio-Haff Witry, member of the BioG cooperative, is also open to the public.
Open day in Käerjeng
This Sunday you can how BIOG products are made and taste in Käerjeng. Painting workshops are also organised for children.
The BioG dairy in Käerjeng was established with the aim of processing the milk of the members of the Bio-Bauere-Genossenschaft Lëtzebuerg into regional, sustainable and healthy organic dairy products. The BIOG goods receive their high quality through a gentle manufacturing procedure, without the use of additives and artificial flavours.
Not only does the milk meet the idea of regionality, but the fertiliser and fodder are also produced locally – mostly directly on the farm.
Committed to the development and promotion of organic agriculture in Luxembourg, BioG and its members ensure respect for animals and nature while guaranteeing a fair remuneration for those involved in the value chain. From production to distribution, the milk passes through Luxembourg partnership structures that not only take into account the social aspect of this “value” chain, but also demand it.
The Bio-Haff Witry open house
You also have the chance to visit the dairy farm Bio-Haff Witry on Sunday from 11 to 7 pm.
Bio-Haff Witry is an organic dairy farm, which converted to organic in 2006. Animal welfare has always been very important to owner Pierre Witry, as has the production of food without the use of pesticides, artificial fertilisers and of course without GMOs. The farm is located near Dippach and is surrounded by nature. The Fleckvieh dairy cows are fed mainly on grass and can graze in the meadows around the farm.
As a member of the BioG cooperative, Bio-Haff Witry produces organic milk for the BioG dairy. Since 2013, the farm has been home to the first raw milk vending machine (Mëllechtankstell) and a self-service point of sale for BIOG products, which are open 24 hours a day.
As an educational farm, Bio-Haff Witry welcomes classes and groups throughout the year to give visitors an insight into agriculture. Its principle is to work with respect for animals and nature.
