Despite a particularly difficult year, the Belgian & Luxembourgish culinary scene shows a very good dynamism. Indeed, the 2021 selection includes a new three-star restaurant, two new two-star establishments and ten new one-star tables. This brings to 137 starred restaurants listed in the Belgium and Luxembourg Michelin Guide. On top of that, 10 restaurants particularly committed to a more sustainable approach to gastronomy receive the first Green Stars in Belgium and Luxembourg.
This year is highlighted by the award of a new three-star start restaurant. Indeed, the Zilte (Antwerp) is rewarded with a third star, its Chef Viki GEUNES joins the club of world-renowned chefs. Also on the list, the young chef Maarten BOUCKAERT at Castor (Beveren Leie) & the tandem of chefs Bart DESMIDT and Philip VANDAMME of the Bartholomeus (Knokke) were rewarded with two Michelin Stars. To round out this year’s winners, ten new establishments were awarded a Michelin Star. In Wallonia, the gourmet cuisine of the Attablez-vous restaurant (Namur), the clever creations of Lettres Gourmandes (Montignies-Saint-Christophe) and the passion and generosity of the cuisine of the Pré des Oréades (Spa) were rewarded. In Flanders, the Pristine (Antwerp), the Boo Raan (Knokke-Heist), the Bar Bulot (Sint-Michiels), the Willem HIELE (Koksijde), Melchior (Tienen), L’Envie (Sint-Denijs) and the Libertine (Erpe) were rewarded with a Michelin Star.
This year is also marked by the the allocation of the first Michelin Green Star in Belgium and Luxembourg. This new star highlights establishments and chefs who are committed to a sustainable future on a daily basis. With this new distinction, the Michelin Guide becomes the voice of particularly inspiring and ambitious professionals whose inspiring initiatives reflect their commitment to a sustainable approach to gastronomy. This year, 10 restaurants were awarded a Green Star including the Chef René MATHIEU (La Distillerie), rewarded for his Vegetable cuisine.
Finally, this 2021 edition also proposes 162 Bib Gourmand addresses, a list in which Le Bistronome (Luxembourg) makes its entry. These tables are distinguished and rewarded for their excellent value for money.
The Michelin Guide Belgium and Luxembourg 2021 goes on sale on January 14 at a price of €23.95 in Belgium and €23.27 in Luxembourg. This 65th edition offers more than 1,000 restaurants and hotels, including 76 new addresses.
