The second edition of the Vëlosummer will once again reserve the loveliest roads in the Luxembourg countryside for cyclists this summer, from the 31st of July to the 29th of August. With numerous local and tourist offers such as Movewecarry, the free luggage transport service, and both digital and local route descriptions, the landscapes of Luxembourg can be discovered undisturbed.
Vëlosummer 2021 offers once again the exceptional opportunity to explore the Luxembourg countryside carefree by bike. The joint initiative of the General Directorate for Tourism and the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, in coordination with 65 municipalities, reserves some of the most beautiful roads in the country for cyclists to offer them a safe and exclusive cycling experience. Some of the cycle tracks can be used over the weekend, others even over the whole month of August.
The various cycling routes offer a rare chance to enjoy the country’s most scenic routes in a completely different way. From the idyllic valleys of the Ösling, Syr, Mamer and Alzette to the vineyards of the Moselle, charming tourist highlights can be discovered. There is also the possibility of cycling along the “Stausee” or the castles in the Guttland or getting to know the Minett by bike.
To facilitate orientation, a detailed map has been produced in cooperation with ProVelo, mapping out the 12 cycling routes. The map will be available at all participating municipalities and partners (ORTs, Luxembourg for Tourism, Tourist Infos etc.) and can be ordered online at www.velosummer.lu to be sent home. In addition, the 12 tours will be clearly signposted this year. A total of 2,500 signs made of sustainable plywood have been placed across the different routes. Ground markings complement the traditional signage at key intersections.

To complete the overall package, the Directorate General of Tourism also offers the luggage transport service movewecarry.lu, which allows cyclists to have their luggage delivered from one accommodation to the next, free of charge. Whether hotel, camping, holiday flat or youth hostel, this service can be booked online or by phone for up to 6 stages.
During the Vëlosummer it is important to always keep in mind that:
- the roads remain accessible to residents and public transport and that the traffic regulations also apply on the closed sections of the route
- bicycles can only be transported on trains and regional buses in the designated areas.
- the routes of the Vëlosummer are officially signposted as such.
Maps, as well as a lot of information about the second edition of the Vëlosummer and details of the tours are available online at www.velosummer.lu , www.visitluxembourg.com and www.movewecarry.lu.
