Following on from its zero-waste e-shop and drive-in launched two years ago, Kilogram is opening its own grocery shop in Capellen.
The desire to consume less waste is often difficult to put into practice, due to the lack of practicality in shops. That’s all history now, thanks to Kilogram, a specialist in bulk sales that makes the practice ultra-simple and accessible. Kilogram has been awarded SIS (Société d’Impact Sociétal) accreditation for its work towards more responsible consumption.
A zero waste adventure
The Kilogram adventure began two years ago. Founder Stéphanie Lamberty adapted her previous job (digital project manager, editor’s note) to make it compatible with her desire to consume more eco-responsibly. “I wanted to continue to fulfil myself in my job, which I love, while helping the planet!
Mission accomplished in 2022 with the launch of Luxembourg’s first eco-responsible e-shop. Today, Kilogram has around 350 products, ranging from sweet and savoury groceries to cosmetics and household products. Stéphanie is always happy to travel the miles to meet producers and offer a gourmet range.
Kilogram’s guarantee? Local (around 1/3 of products), organic and without packaging. For food products, two of these three pillars are guaranteed. “When we say local, we mean within a 50 km radius”, explains the founder. Kilogram also works with several social organisations in Luxembourg, such as Ligue HMC, which supplies its apple crisps, and ATP for its jams.
Non-local products come (as far as possible) from the EU, such as white quinoa from Belgium, green lentils from France and sugar from Germany. And when it comes to price, there’s something to suit every budget, with several ranges of the same product.

A growing community
All these products can be found at the Capellen grocery shop, where you can help yourself using your containers or buy a jar already filled. “The premises have been fitted out entirely with salvaged furniture, including old shelves from the CFL archives or wine crates from Cactus – in short, everything is as circular as our jars!” The opening was made possible thanks to the support of the Grande-Duchesse Charlotte National Relief Organisation, as well as the help of numerous volunteers. “My greatest satisfaction is to see that the community is growing; every week, new customers turn to a zero-waste consumption and, above all, stick with it! I’m looking forward to witnessing an even bigger growth in the future.”
For those keen to do everything from home, you can still shop online. Once your order is placed, products are filled in the lovely Kilogram jars by the team in Capellen, they are ready for pick-up in the next 24H (in Capellen, Beckerich or Junglinster) or delivered to your home (nationwide, free over a certain amount). Then, in your next order, you return the (unwashed!) jars and the deposit is credited to your account. Can it be any simpler?
Kilogram will appeal to anyone who is keen to make a change. Go to the kilogram.lu website or visit Stéphanie and her team in Capellen. The adventure promises to be as easy as pie. And ultra-rewarding.
