At Curious Buds, it is all about curiosity and passion. Junn Loh, who started the multi roaster café with her partner Arnaud Gallais, is a true passionate, a coffee lover, a curious mind eager to share her knowledge to every one willing to open up his horizons. And with a cup of Curious Buds’ coffee in hand, your horizon will shine. Trust us.
When she was young, Junn never liked coffee. “How could people drink this bitter beverage? I couldn’t get it”. But when she was 20, as she visited Copenhagen, she drank a cup of specialty coffee. “With one sip only, I could taste Jasmin, apricot and so many other flavors. This was amazing. I immediately wanted to discover more!” And her love for specialty coffee started to grow. First, as a young barista in Paris. After some years, she was the one training the newcomers and helping out in coffee festivals with other coffee lovers. “I wanted to understand why some beans have this taste, and not the others. The process is so important to me.”
To brew a great cup, it is important to know everything from the varieties, the terroir, the processing method, the brewing and of course the drinking. This entire process is no secret for Junn and she will happily explained it to any customers.
Hence Curious Buds: a place to meet coffee buddies, get curious and learn.
Located on the ground floor of The Foundry, the co-working space in Hollerich, Junn couldn’t have expected a nicer space to develop Curious Buds.
Initially, the story of Curious Buds started 1 year ago, with a website. “Before Covid, I had the intention of opening my own coffee place, but the situation was too unpredictable so instead we started a business online, selling specialty coffee and subscription boxes to allow everyone to experiment different coffee.”
On her website, Junn selects a variety of popular as well as new roasters to offer an exciting specialty coffee experience. That she is now proposing in her own coffee place to all the coffee lovers in Luxembourg! “My wish is for everybody to open up to new way of drinking coffee; try different origins brewed with different methods and be surprised with the taste!” We tried a milk based coffee from Guatemala roasted by RumBaba in Amsterdam) and a pourer (filter coffee) with a special Colombian coffee by the same roaster. We were blown away by the taste!
On the food corner, Junn is preparing savory recipes such as bowls with vegetables and salmon. For the sweeth tooth, do not miss her yuzu cheesecake and the matcha dark chocolate brookie, or the Froyogato made of 2 scoops of frozen vanilla yoghurt, Speculoos chunks, fruits and… a shot of espresso of course!
The space invites to relax and enjoy one or more cup of cappuccino, filter coffee or espresso. Comfortable chairs, different tables for the freelancers working outside from home, boardgames to play with friends, and seasonal artwork by a rotation of artists from around the world. You can also buy coffee accessories made in Japan that Junn has selected for the design and good quality of course.
As you see, it’s all about discoveries at Curious Buds.
