For the past few months, residents of Differdange have been able to enjoy the ambiance and delights of the Italian tea salon, Fiorio.
Located on a small square at the corner of Rue Emile-Mark and Avenue Charlotte, Fiorio, the charming shop run by Corneliu and Cristina Baciu, welcomes lovers of Italy and anyone with a sweet tooth looking for a delightful break.
A Heritage from Turin
“The name Fiorio comes from the Café Fiorio in Turin, established in 1780,” explains Corneliu Baciu. Originally from Romania, Baciu has worked in Spain, Greece, and finally Turin – the city he fell in love with. There, he discovered Café Fiorio, renowned for its pastries and sweet specialties for centuries.
During a visit to Luxembourg, this coffee-loving barista found the perfect spot to start his own venture: a charming corner shop in Differdange, nestled between two historic buildings, next to a bar and a shoe store. Here, he opened his small, modern café, which even features a cozy terrace on the small square during sunny days.
Open All Day
The café is open from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and also on Saturdays and Sundays. Corneliu works tirelessly with his wife Cristina, a trained pastry chef, to offer breakfast, snacks, lunch with savory sandwiches or croque-monsieurs, and afternoon tea.
On the menu that day were: jam croissants (apricot, hazelnut, chocolate cream, custard, pistachio cream), crostatines (small tarts with a lattice crust, filled with apricot, red fruits, or ricotta), and other pasticcini like adorable little cream puffs (vanilla, chocolate, red fruits, pistachio, whipped cream), „Sachertorte“ in the Turin style, and Gianduiotto, delicious, melt-in-your-mouth chocolates typical of Piedmont and highly addictive!
Quality Coffee and Fresh Ice Cream
The coffee beans come directly from Turin. “I try to educate my customers about good coffee,” Corneliu says. “For example, an espresso has a stronger taste but less caffeine than a coffee that brews longer.”
Fiorio also offers 14 flavors of ice cream, which are sourced directly from Turin’s master gelato maker, Luigi Mazzocchi.
