The British sandwich chain Pret A Manger opened its first branch at Royal-Hamilius in Luxembourgs city center last May. Rumor has it, however, that the store was about to close. We got to the bottom of the matter.
You may have heard it already, from work colleagues or on social media – the Pret A Manger branch on Royal-Hamilius is to close soon. This news spread like wildfire, causing concern among regular customers and raising questions about the future of the popular sandwich chain in Luxembourg.
In a recent interview with virgule.lu (published on 23.3.2024), one of the country’s largest franchisees spoke about Luxembourg City’s position in the hospitality industry. He mentioned that Pret A Manger was probably looking for a new takeover. (Quote: Toutefois, selon mes informations, la franchise Pret A Manger cherche déjà un autre repreneur).
This does not mean that the store is to be sold on, but merely that they are looking for a new franchisee. It is impossible to say for sure, but it is possible that the origin of the rumor that Pret A Manger would close is due to a misinterpretation of this statement.
To dispel any doubts, we asked Pret A Manger for a statement and received a clear answer: The branch at Royal Hamilius is staying! The company is even planning to open more locations in the Grand Duchy.
Here is the full statement in its exact wording:
So don’t worry, Pret A Manger remains one of the safe places to go in thecity center for a lunch break or a snack in between!
