There’s a lot to experience this year on 23 June, and not just in the capital!
In honour of the Grand Duke’s birthday, concerts, shows and other exciting activities are taking place all over the country for you to discover. We’ve picked out some of the most interesting events below so you can make the most of your national day!
Luxembourg City
- Spillfest – In addition to the official celebrations, the Spillfest has been held for several years with increasing success on the Kinnekswiss in Luxembourg’s City Park. Between 10:00 and 18:00, various local associations and artists offer a range of inventive and educational games. Participation is of course free of charge. More info: www.vdl.lu
- Arméifest (army festival) – On the Place de Martyrs, the Luxembourg army invites you to a drink in the afternoon and also presents its collection of recent and historical military vehicles and uniforms.
- City Sounds – The major music festival “City Sounds” starts on the eve of the celebration and continues on National Day from 17:00. On this day, the big international headliners “THE SCRIPT” and “The 1975” will also perform. Admission is free of charge! More info: www.visitluxembourg.com
In the rest of the country
- Civil ceremony – In Diekirch, a traditional ceremony will take place between 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. with the “Te Deum” mass, the civil ceremony and a festive toast by the mayor. Afterwards, of course, refreshments will be served. More information: www.diekirch.lu
- Fete Nationale on the Marie-Astrid – Those who want to take it easy can enjoy an idyllic cruise on the Moselle between 12:00 and 16:00 on the M.S. Princesse Marie-Astrid. A high-quality 3-course menu will be served. Further information: www.entente-moselle.lu
- Open-Air Konschtfestival 2023 – Lellingen has something very special to offer on National Day: An open-air art festival featuring around 100 artists, including painters, sculptors but also street and circus artists. There will also be a live art competition in which the visitors themselves will choose the winner. In addition, there will be workshops for children, teenagers and young adults. - Festival Petingen – In cooperation with the municipality of Petingen, “Den Atelier” organises a music festival on the Place J.F. Kennedy. In addition to the Luxembourgish veterans “Cool Feet”, the German pop musician “Max Mutzke” will be the headliner. Further information: www.atelier.lu
