The Luxemburgish symbol for freedom and resistance, the “Gëlle Fra”, was created in 1923 by renowned sculptor Claus Cito and celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. To mark the anniversary of what is probably the most important national symbol, an exceptional beer is being released by the design studio of Will Kreutz in collaboration with “Den Heischter” brewery. Stefan Schütz, the talented brewmaster of the brewery has crafted a “Strong Ale” type beer that perfectly captures the festive mood of this momentous event and fittingly celebrates the pride we take in our national monument.
All varieties in this finely balanced collection are hardy and can be sown in August and September, and then from February onwards. Imagine great-cut flowers from the garden as early as May! Growing them is child’s play and fresh from the garden, the flowers will last a long time in your vase.
This 100% local redcurrant syrup is produced in Eppeldorf by the Friederes family. The fruit is grown and processed on their own farm. The syrup contains only the juice of the berries, boiled up with sugar. Mix it with sparkling mineral water and garnish with lemon and mint for a refreshing drink, or use it to add a fruity twist to milk or yoghurt. The redcurrant syrup is also an excellent base for making homemade sorbets.
Imagine rich roasted apples on the nose, warm caramel and butterscotch flavours, an intense taste of traditional cider apples with hints of freshly baked cookies and a mouth-watering chewy satin texture, followed by a long, tart, fresh apple finish. Ramborn’s Meadow Orchard Ice Cider is made using the cryoconcentration method. Freshly pressed meadow orchard apple juice is frozen and left to naturally melt, separating the water to reveal an intense, syrupy must packed with flavour. The must is then slowly fermented over several months. The high level of residual sugar is what gives the cider its signature sweetness, elegantly offset by the traditional apple variety’s acidity. Ice Cider is perfect served as an aperitif or dessert wine. Available at La Provençale.

The Miseler Bei honey is produced by the Marx family farm on the banks of Luxembourg’s Moselle river. All the bee colonies are along the Moselle all year round and are managed by three beekeepers. The “Fréijoarshunneg” from Miseler Bei is a delicate, creamy honey, made from the nectar of fruit trees, hawthorn, dandelion and rape blossoms. Its creamy consistency makes it the ideal honey for spreading on bread, and perfect for sweetening drinks or dishes.
