New packaging and new visual identity: the summer harvest of the honey from Neimënster’s apiaries is now available in a limited edition.
At the request of Neimënster, in 2012 the Federation of Beekeepers installed several beehives in the gardens of the City of Luxembourg, along the banks of the Alzette, in the immediate vicinity of the Abbey site. The pollination carried out by the bees on the territory of the city of Luxembourg is part of Neimënster’s green approach.
A total of 10 hives have been installed in the Pétrusse valley along the Alzette. Each beehive contains between 15,000 and 60,000 bees depending on the season and produce an average of 20 kg of honey per harvest. The nectar is harvested twice a year by the beekeeper Georges Gidt: in spring for a clearer and sweeter honey in the mouth, in summer for a honey that is more amber and strong in taste.
Mielusina, Neimënster’s honey is labelled organic and pays homage to the mermaid of the Alzette, that fascinated the Luxembourgish artist Will Lofy who created the illustration, a Melusine half mermaid, half bee that adorns pots and bottles.
In addition to the honey, a honey liqueur, with apple alcohol, prepared in an artisanal way for Neimënster, is also proposed to the public.
You can find the honey and liquor at Neimënster.
