May the 10th marks the kick-off of the International Fruit and Vegetable Week and the We’re Smart Academy. But that’s not all – it’s also the launch of the new 5 Radish Chef’s Club, exclusively for the 79 best vegetable restaurants in the world that have received the prestigious ‘5 Radish’ rating.
The International Fruit and Vegetable Week takes place from the 10th to the 16th of May 2021. This represents seven full days of new and creative initiatives around fruits and vegetables, presented by chefs, retailers, farmers, producers and many others. And this year will be an even more special week, as 2021 has also been declared the International Year of Fruit and Vegetables by the United Nations. In addition, We’re Smart World – the Belgian organisation behind the Fruit and Vegetable Week – has also been designated as one of the official voices of the United Nations on the Sustainable Development Goals, recognising its role as an ambassador for the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which range from eradicating poverty to combating climate change.
We’re Smart World has also chosen this special edition of Fruit and Vegetable Week to launch the We’re Smart Academy. As part of the Academy’s mission, leading international chefs will share their fruit and vegetable secrets in a series of interactive monthly webinars. Fans can join these sessions on Clubhouse to get an insight into the latest innovations and trends in healthy and eco-friendly cooking. As part of this founding edition of the Academy, We’re Smart World is also launching a handbook with 51 different fruit and vegetable cooking techniques and many healthy and delicious recipes.
The 10th of May also marks the launch of the brand new 5 Radish Chefs Club: an exclusive club whose membership is strictly reserved for chefs from the world’s best vegetable restaurants who have scored the coveted ‘5 Radish’ rating in the We’re Smart Green culinary guide. Currently, only 79 chefs have been awarded this prestigious honour. Among other criteria, restaurants that achieve the 5 Radish rating must use fruit and vegetables in at least two-thirds of their menu, while demonstrating a strong focus on local and sustainable produce and implementing systems to limit water and energy consumption. The Club is intended as a meeting place where like-minded chefs can exchange ideas and visions with each other and with other chefs.
