Ingredients
- 4 small oranges
- 1 lemon
- 4 cm ginger
- 3 bottles (75 cl) of red wine (ex. Merlot)
- 100 ml Hunnegdrepp (honey liquor)
- 2 tbsp honey
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 6 star anise
- 8 whole cloves
Instructions
- Cut 2 of the oranges and the lemon into slices. Squeeze the juice of the 2 remaining oranges, cut the ginger into 4 smaller pieces and put everything in a big pot.
- Add the wine, honey liquor, half of the honey and sugar aswell as all the spices to the pot and warm the mixture over medium-high heat. Keep an eye on it, as soon as small bubbles appear on the surface, reduce the heat to medium-low. Let simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Taste the mulled wine and season with the sweetener as wished.
- Serve into mugs and add a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick for garnish.
Tips
If you prefer an even more spicy taste, leave the pot with the mulled wine over low heat to simmer for a few more minutes. The longer it infuses, the more you taste the spices. Take care not to boil the wine because it looses the amount of alcohol in it.
