23 September is a special day for organic lovers and environmentally conscious consumers across Europe. This day marks the official EU Organic Day, an initiative of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission to highlight the importance and benefits of organic production.
A new milestone for organic
The decision to declare this day EU Organic Day originates from the Action Plan for the Promotion of Organic Production launched by the Commission on 25 March 2021. The main objective? To raise public awareness of organic production.
In this context, the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, said: “We celebrate organic production and sustainable agriculture. Food produced in harmony with nature, biodiversity and animal welfare are the focus on this day. 23 September, the day of the autumn equinox, symbolises the balance between agriculture and the environment – a symbol of organic production.”
Organic in Luxembourg
In Luxembourg, too, this day is used to inform about organic and to raise people’s awareness. It is about highlighting the importance of organic and biological agriculture, biodiversity and the production of organic products. Indeed, as the saying goes: organic makes the difference!
The Luxembourgish government already has ambitious goals for organic farming. By 2025, 20% of all agricultural land is to be farmed organically. A clear message to everyone: it is time to get involved and participate.
The “Vereenegung fir Biolandwirtschaft Lëtzebuerg a.s.b.l.”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, provides detailed information about “Bio vun heiheem” and offers further information on the topic.
A call to all in Luxembourg: Support our organic farmers. Buy and enjoy local organic food.
