The Greeks have not only mastered the arts, literature, and philosophy, but they have also enthused the world with their delicious Mediterranean cuisine. We have compiled a bunch of authentic snack bars as well as restaurants for you to enjoy, regardless of your budget!
Aleó – 37 Rue de Beggen 37, L-1221 Luxembourg: Aléo’s head and co-owner, chef Dionysis Papanikolaou, was awarded Gold twice by Premium Awards for his cooking skills. They also have a Greek delicatessen shop, which sells from cold-pressed oil to wines and coffee brewed in Greece!
Ambrosia Restaurant – 10 Rue Notre Dame, L-2240 Luxembourg: Ambrosia will convert you to the Cretan diet with its delicious garlic vegetables, grilled meats and delectable fish. They also offer drinks aged in oak barrels from Mount Pagaio, Mount Gerania or Santorini!
Athena – 56 Rue Adolphe Fischer, L-1520 Luxembourg: Immerse yourself in Greek culture with Athena, where plates are topped with gyros and prawns served with metaxa sauce and a bottle of Makedoniko or Imiglykos are waiting for you!
ÉLA – 37 Av. John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg: ÉLA is the ideal place to share cold and hot mezze such as spanakopita, a scrumptious spinach pie with feta cheese. Equally tempting is their Greekburger, served in pita bread with beef together with a yoghurt truffle sauce!
La Taverne Yamas – 6 Rue d’Anvers, L-1130 Luxembourg: A few steps away from the train station in the famous Rue d’Anvers, find La Taverne Yamas, whose chef, Petros Gatsoulis, has worked in some of the most popular Greek restaurants of Germany and the Grand Duchy. You can find here zucchini or fish dumplings, Mizithra puff pastry, Greek sausages with spicy peppers, shrimps flambéed with Ouzo or their pork kebabs, to name a few!
Souvlaki The Original – 2a Rue de Mondercange, L-4381 Sanem: The first Greek souvlaki grill that opened in Luxembourg is worth a visit. Indeed, their Politiko burger is served in brioche bread with minced meat and a salad with carrot and cabbage. Divine! For dessert they serve Galaktoboureko, a semolina pudding with a crisp, flaky pastry and syrup.
Tsu Pies – 11 Av. de la Porte-Neuve, L-2227 Luxembourg: If you feel like having a snack, hop over to Tsu Pies, where they sell savoury spinach pies with feta cheese or some delightful butella with a melted chocolate praline spread. Don’t forget to check out the article we’ve written about them!
