Are you still thinking about the coffee freddo you sipped in the streets of Naxos and the melting spinach and feta pies you bought in the local bakeries and devoured on the beach? No need to book a ticket to Athens to satisfy these cravings, the new 100% Greek address “Tsu Pies”, right in the city centre, will allow you to go back to your holiday memories. Good times ahead!
Tsu Pies is located next to the Alima, avenue de la Porte-Neuve, with a takeaway offer only. “Tsu” stands for “Tsureki”, a traditional Greek brioche, braided, soft, stringy and delicious. “Tsu Pies” because you can order pies prepared with filo dough and filled with salty or sweet ingredients that Greeks are used to eating from breakfast.
The founder Kostas Giannopoulos is opening his second address, after the one in Rotterdam located in the Markthal, the largest indoor market of the city. “With Vicky, my wife and cofounder, we lived in Luxembourg for almost a decade and consider it as our second home. When we lived there, we have acknowledged the big Greek community but also the hole in the market of Luxembourg in quick, high quality and affordable food.”
The owner does not hide his ambition to open more shops soon. “We hope to grow further to become the leading Greek chain with high quality products, a warm atmosphere and a joyful culture.”
What do you eat at Tsu Pies? On the sweet side, don’t miss the “tsureki” brioche, which owes its unique taste to the addition of specific spices such as mahlepi (a spice made from the pit of the black cherry) or mastiha liqueur (made from the resin of the mastic tree).
We also really much enjoyed the “Bougatsa”, a pastry made of semolina, custard and filo pastry. A savoury version also exists! It is impossible not to succumb to their baklava, one of the best seller, a delicious pastry made with filo pastry, (lots of) honey and nuts.
For your lunch, order the “spanakopita”, a filo pastry filled with spinach and feta cheese, also really popular.
Every day, lemonades made with homemade syrup are also available. Even if the current temperatures are far from what you can have in Greece, the caffe freddo prepared by the TSU team will have a magical effect, making you feel the sun’s rays on your skin even though not present in the sky. Magical we say.
Enjoy your trip to Greece!
