The third edition of the “Turning Tables” event series created by Caves Wengler and MAYBE YES/MAYBE NO took place on 25 & 26 November 2023. This event’s motto was: FAUNA / FLORA.
In the charming flower shop “ALBUS Fleurs” in Luxembourg’s Merl district, Caves Wengler and MAYBE YES/ MAYBE NO realised the third edition of the innovative “TURNING TABLES” event in collaboration with chef Clovis de Grave from Grünewald Chef’s Table. The concept this time was “FAUNA / FLORA”. The emphasis is on complete immersion: from the location, decoration and animation to the culinary offering, everything is coordinated and takes place within a matching conceptual framework.
Chef Degrave presented a menu that was both innovative and respectful of the traditional roots of gastronomy. From the butter candle and nettle sponge cake to the dandelion salad with goat’s cheese and a black garlic vinaigrette, each dish paid homage to the diversity and beauty of nature. Of particular note were the confit soya marinated chicken eggs served with celeriac and porcini mushroom ravioli, an example of Degrave’s ability to reinterpret classic ingredients.
The wine selection, carefully curated by Caves Wengler, perfectly complemented each dish. The wines ranged from smaller, refined producers to renowned wine houses and elevated the excellent menu to an even higher level. A particular highlight here was the 2015 vintage of “Les Vieux Clos” from Nicolas Joy, which was paired with a grilled wagyu steak in a lemongrass miso.
The feedback from guests was consistently positive, with many praising the unique combination of ambience, food and wine. The event went far beyond the traditional concept of a dinner and highlighted the possibilities of free and creative culinary expression. An asset to the local gastronomy scene and proof of how innovative and dynamic it can be when given the chance.
The next TURNING TABLES EVENT will take place at the beginning of 2024, so keep your eyes and ears open, because as a gastronomy lover you shouldn’t miss it!
