During the Paris Agricultural Show 2023, more than 100,000 French people voted for their favourite dish out of a selection of nine regional specialities.
The big Parisian Agriculture show closed its doors on Sunday the 5th of March. This unmissable event for lovers of good food, but also of animals and politics (and animal-politics…) hosted a small poll organised by RTL France: what is the favourite regional dish in France?
Out of nine recipes
Competing: bouillabaisse (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur), stuffed cabbage (Auvergne), saucisson brioché (Rhône-Alpes), sauerkraut (Grand Est), poule au pot (Aquitaine), carbonade flamande (Hauts-de-France), cassoulet (Occitanie), poulet Vallée d’Auge (Normandie) and galette complète (Bretagne). Some 106,000 votes were cast!
Top 5
This is the Top 5 result: the carbonade flamande came fifth, behind the cassoulet. In third place, stuffed cabbage was a surprise! And only 1% separates France’s favourite dish from the second: with 32% of the votes, it’s the Breton wholemeal cake that wins out over Alsatian sauerkraut (31%)!

What is a galette complète?
The “complète” is the basis for buckwheat pancakes. A galette (or crêpe), grated cheese (Emmental), ham and a sunny side up egg. Accompanied by a green salad and a bowl of raw cider, that’s it: you’re ready to enjoy the favourite regional dish of the French!
