Ingredients
- 8-10 sausages (Frankfurters or other preferred type)
- 1 package (about 320g) of ready-rolled puff pastry
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Ketchup for serving
- Small mozzarella balls or small pieces of feta cheese
- Black olives or green olives (pitted)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C.
- Unroll the puff pastry and cut it into thin strips, approximately 1 cm wide.
- Take a sausage and wrap it with a strip of the puff pastry, leaving gaps to resemble bandages on a mummy. Make sure to leave a small space near the top of the sausage for the mummy's eyes. Repeat for all sausages. If one strip of pastry isn't enough to wrap an entire sausage, use another strip and continue wrapping.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg. Brush the wrapped sausages with the egg wash. This will give them a golden colour when baked.
- Place the wrapped sausages on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the sausages are cooked through.
- Once baked, let the mummies cool for a few minutes. Then, using ketchup as glue, stick a small piece of mozzarella and olive to create an eye in the space you left earlier.
- Serve with a side of ketchup.
