With their new project “Young Horeca Talents,” Gault&Millau aims to support the emerging culinary talents of Belgium and Luxembourg, ensuring a sustainable future for the hospitality industry.
The objective is to involve all hospitality schools in Belgium and Luxembourg in addressing the current issues of the industry, such as labor shortages and themes like sustainability and veganism.
A Launch for the Future
In a press release, Gault&Millau confirmed that over a dozen hospitality schools have enthusiastically agreed to participate in the project. The official kickoff is set for September 2024, with the finale scheduled for spring 2025.
Five hospitality schools have already taken part in a pilot project over the past few months, with results presented on Wednesday, May 15. The participants included schools from Brussels, Koksijde, Antwerp, Louvain, and the ETHL in Luxembourg. Teams of three to four students, guided by a teacher, assessed their education, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and envisioning their future.
Gault&Millau Inspires Greatness in Young Talents
The official project, set to start in a few months, will be a competition where schools face challenges like developing an innovative restaurant concept. “For example, a vegan concept or mocktails paired with food, which can be implemented in the restaurant of their hospitality school,” explains Gault&Millau. “The students can unleash their creativity. Sustainability, a very current topic, could be taken into account. We’ve already received proposals for designing a vegetarian fast-casual restaurant or a juice bar with mocktails. We feel a truly positive excitement around the project, which is highly motivating for our team as well,” says CEO Marc Declerck.
The project aims to provide a challenge for both students and schools: “We want to support the schools where tomorrow’s talents are trained and encourage young talents to tackle the challenges their generation will face. The goal is for the various stakeholders in the hospitality industry to gain a better understanding of the thinking and lifestyle of Generation Z. After all, they are the foundation of the Horeca world of tomorrow and the day after,” concludes the CEO.
All proposals from the Belgian and Luxembourg hospitality schools will be showcased on Gault&Millau’s platforms.
