Last summer, we wrote about the arrival on the Luxembourgish gastronomic scene of the three partners from “Bonne Nouvelle”, the restaurant on Avenue Emile Reuter. These young enthusiasts, never short of ideas, are collaborating this year with Caves Wengler for “OFF THE GRID” gastronomic events where attendees will discover the cuisine of chefs from different culinary backgrounds, while tasting biodynamic and natural wines. Interview and presentation.
Davide, Joseph and Mathias, who also run the artisanal brasserie Satori and the events company Umami, launched “Chef’s nights” this summer to allow the Luxembourgish public to discover another approach to cooking by giving chefs carte blanche, all in an intimate setting (approximately 20 places).
This new collaboration with Wengler allows the trio to offer these different kinds of culinary evenings to a wider audience, choosing venues that can accommodate up to 50 people. “The collaboration with Wengler was quite obvious because we share the same philosophy. They have a great selection of natural and biodynamic wines in their very good range, which was important to continue to propose our menu with such wines,” explains Davide.
For Wengler, these events are an opportunity to support young entrepreneurs who energise the Luxembourgish culinary scene. “We really identify with the Umami spirit, which breaks the codes somewhat by offering a real novelty through these extraordinary culinary experiences. And as almost 60% of our portfolio at Wengler includes certified and non-certified organic and biodynamic wines, offering our selection for these events made sense,” explains Charline Wengler.
During these evenings, Charline Wengler together with a sommelier will be present. “It is very important for us to tell the story of the winemakers to understand their philosophy”, says Charline.
The first date of this season 1 will be on the 25th of January at Les Rotondes. For the occasion, Colombian chef Juan Pablo Rojas Pineda will present a menu with Colombian influences, prepared with seasonal products. A guaranteed voyage! “We worked hand in hand with the team at Wengler to find the wines that would go best with Juan Pablo’s dishes. It was a very interesting process,” says Davide.
Three other dates are currently planned, following the seasons (spring, summer, autumn). “For the next event, we will probably invite a chef from Luxembourg who is currently working abroad, so that he can bring his culinary discoveries and combine them with traditional dishes,” Davide reveals.
Hurry up and book your tickets for the event on the 25th of January, and follow the Instagram accounts of Bonne Nouvelle and Wengler to be informed about the next “OFF THE GRID” evenings. A great year of gastronomy ahead!
