Luxembourg’s cultural enthusiasts are gearing up for an exciting celebration this autumn as the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) commemorates its 225th anniversary.
The Discovery Days event, scheduled for September 30th and October 1st, 2023, invites participants to delve into the nation’s rich cultural history through its largest repository of knowledge. The event promises a captivating journey through the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) extensive collections, shedding light on Luxembourg’s intellectual evolution over the past two centuries.
The event’s itinerary boasts a diverse array of activities designed to engage the curious minds of all attendees. Visitors can embark on guided tours of the library’s hidden stacks, providing a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the institution’s inner workings. A Discovery Tour of the Reading Room offers an immersive experience, enabling guests to interact with the library’s staff and indulge in thought-provoking discussions spanning literature, art, music, culture, and science.
A highlight of the festivities includes presentations showcasing the BnL’s precious special collections. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to witness historically significant documents that have played pivotal roles in shaping the country’s narrative. Workshops ranging from the art of bookbinding to creating iron gall ink and even manga drawing will empower participants to explore various aspects of cultural preservation.
The celebrations culminate in a vibrant DJ session around Luxembourgish music. As the sun sets on Saturday evening, the library’s music department staff member Patrick Steffen, aka DJ Ausgeléint, takes the stage.
