It’s new, it’s hip and it’s delicious! To all our young gourmets and avid little chefs out there: check out the new cooking school exclusively for kids!
MaWaKa opened its doors on September 17th. This new cooking school for children is located in Gasperich and it already gained a lot of attention! That’s because this adventure is not brand new: it began during the confinement of 2020. Joëlle Hinger, a teacher, passionate about cooking and mother of two, launched her blog intended to offer simple cooking recipes for the youngest. Parents and children carefully followed her posts and were inspired by her healthy and gourmet recipes. The success was huge!
As her culinary blog, “MAmma WAt Kache mer haut? » (“Mom, what are we cooking today?”) gained in popularity, and Joëlle Hinger takes out pastry boxes with ingredients and tips for making Christmas brownies, or sheep shaped cupcakes for example… Obviously, always avoiding junk food. The success was still there and the teacher decides to take a new step: create a school for young chefs.
On September 17th, she therefore opened the MaWaKa school, Luxembourg’s first cooking school for children in the presence of a large audience, the Minister of Family and Integration, Corinne Cahen, and Cathy Fayot and Christa Brömmel, of the municipal Council of the City of Luxembourg.
Here, you can find now cooking lessons for children from 3 years old (3-5 year olds participate with their parents) up to 15 years old. Joëlle Hinger leads courses in a friendly atmosphere, respecting an educational approach adapted to the age of the children.
Her lessons cover the basics of cooking “from A to Z”: the selection of fresh seasonal products, the cleaning of fruits and vegetables, the preparation of recipes adapted to the age of children, the cleaning of utensils and even of the kitchen! Without forgetting a tasting at the end of each lesson !
